Old trees, red clay and high standards
Midlothian has some of the oldest roots in Chesterfield County. Coal was mined here as far back as the 1700s, and the old village along Midlothian Turnpike still anchors the area. Today it's a mix of established neighborhoods with big hardwoods and newer communities like Hallsley, Charter Colony, Founders Bridge and Salisbury.
That mix means two very different kinds of lawns, often on the same street. Both sit on Chesterfield's red clay, and both get the same complaints about other crews: skipped visits, grass cut too short, clippings left on the driveway and calls that never get returned. We built our service to fix every one of those.
- Where: western Chesterfield along Midlothian Turnpike (Route 60) and Route 288
- Roots: one of the earliest coal mining areas in the country, remembered at Midlothian Mines Park
- Neighborhoods we serve: Hallsley, Charter Colony, Founders Bridge, Salisbury, Birkdale
- Lots: mature wooded lots next to newer subdivision yards
- Grass: mostly tall fescue on red Chesterfield clay
Two kinds of Midlothian lawns
Established wooded lots and newer neighborhood yards need very different care.
Mature, Wooded Lots
Big oaks and hardwoods are a big part of Midlothian's character, but they bring shade, surface roots and a lot of leaves.
- Shade: shade-tolerant fescue seed in fall
- Tree roots: careful mowing and trimming around exposed roots
- Heavy leaf drop: leaf mulching every 1–2 weeks in fall
- Thin, tired turf: soil test, core aeration and overseeding
Newer Neighborhood Yards
In communities like Hallsley and Charter Colony, many lawns sit on thin topsoil over clay packed down during construction.
- Unknown soil: a soil test to see what the builder left you
- Packed-down ground: core aeration to break up compaction
- Thin turf: fall overseeding to build density
- HOA standards: crisp edges and a clean finish every visit

Midlothian lawn care FAQ
How much does lawn care cost in Midlothian?
Weekly mowing for a standard Midlothian lot (4,000–10,000 sq ft of grass) is $105 per visit, or $125 every other week. Small yards start at $75, large yards are $135, and estate yards start at $175. Every visit includes mowing, edging, trimming and blowing. See all plans and prices.
My grass is thin under the big trees. What can I do?
Shade and tree roots compete with your grass. Fall overseeding with shade-tolerant fescue helps, along with keeping leaves off. In deep shade, a mulched bed is sometimes the better answer, and we'll tell you honestly.
Why does my newer lawn look thin even though it was sodded or seeded?
Builders often lay sod or seed over a thin layer of topsoil on top of compacted clay, so roots struggle to push down. A soil test, fall core aeration and overseeding are the fastest fix.
Do you handle leaves on wooded Midlothian lots?
Yes. Leaf mulching is $175 a visit for current clients and $225 for new clients on lawns up to 10,000 sq ft. Bigger lawns and heavy wooded drop are quoted on a free walk-through.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No. There's no contract and no membership. Weekly clients get a reserved day for the season and our better rates on seasonal work.
