Lawn Care in The Highlands, Chesterfield VA
From lakefront homes on Lake Margaret to wooded acre-plus homesites along the golf course, we mow, feed, aerate, and clean up the big, rolling yards that make The Highlands one of a kind.
Lawn Care Built for The Highlands
The Highlands isn't a typical subdivision. It's 3,100 acres of rolling, wooded land with two lakes, an 18-hole golf course, and homesites from one to five acres, many tucked behind natural buffers.
Whether you're in Glen Kilchurn, MacLachlan, Cypress Glen, or the new sections at Lake Margaret, your yard sits next to a championship course and 100+ acres of water. The bar is high, and a lot this size needs more than a quick mow-and-go.
We're based in Chesterfield's 23832 too, so The Highlands is close to home for us.
- Size: 3,100-acre community with 1–5 acre homesites
- Water: The Highlands Lake (65 acres) and Lake Margaret (40 acres)
- Golf: The Golf Club at The Highlands, an 18-hole Barton Tuck course opened in 1995
- Life here: three lakefront pools, the Highlands Hurricanes swim team, trails, and dinner at The Reserve
- Land: rolling hills, mature woods, and Chesterfield clay
What Highlands Lawns Need
Big lots, hills, woods, and water. Most Highlands yards have at least two of the four, and each changes how the lawn should be cared for.
Acre-Plus Yards in the Trees
Natural buffers are part of what makes The Highlands beautiful, but big wooded lots bring shade, roots, leaves, and a lot of ground to cover.
- 1–5 acres to mow: commercial mowers built for big yards
- Hills and slopes: equipment and mowing patterns that hold traction without scuffing turf
- Shade near the woods: shade-tolerant fescue seed each fall
- Heavy leaf drop: leaf mulching every 1–2 weeks in fall
Yards by the Water and the Fairways
Homes on The Highlands Lake, Lake Margaret, and along the course are the most visible yards in the community, and the ones closest to the water.
- Lake-smart feeding: soil-test-based rates, no product on hard surfaces or near the shoreline
- Slopes to the water: careful mowing and seeding to prevent erosion
- Golf-course curb appeal: crisp edges and stripes that hold up next to the fairways
- Geese and wet spots: overseeding thin areas and fixing low spots
What You Get Every Visit
Not a quick drive-by. Every mow includes the details that make a yard look finished.
- 1Mow at the right height. 3.5–4 inches for tall fescue in summer, with sharp blades for a clean cut.
- 2Edge every hard surface. Sidewalks, driveway, and walkways get crisp, straight lines.
- 3Trim everywhere the mower can't. Around beds, trees, mailboxes, and fence lines.
- 4Blow it all clean. No clippings left on your driveway, walk, or porch.

Common Questions
How much does lawn care cost in The Highlands?
Most Highlands homesites are Estate size (20,000+ sq ft of grass), and weekly mowing for those starts at $175 per visit. Smaller yards start at $105. Because homesites range from one to five acres, we give an exact price after a quick look at your property. See all plans and prices.
Can you handle big, hilly lots?
Yes. We run commercial mowers built for large yards and mow slopes across the hill with wide turns, so the turf holds up instead of getting scuffed or rutted.
I live on the lake. Is fertilizer safe for the water?
We feed based on a soil test, so your lawn gets only what it needs. We keep product off driveways and walks, stay back from the shoreline, and never apply before heavy rain. A strip of taller, unfertilized grass at the water's edge also helps filter runoff.
My grass is thin near the woods. What can I do?
Wooded buffers mean shade and tree roots competing with your grass. Fall overseeding with shade-tolerant fescue helps, along with keeping leaves off. In deep shade, a mulched bed is sometimes the better answer, and we'll tell you honestly.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No. There's no contract and no membership. Weekly clients get a reserved day for the season and our better rates on seasonal work.
